Il granchio blu è un crostaceo originario delle coste atlantiche che, grazie alle grandi navi cargo in arrivo dal continente americano, si è diffuso largamente nel Mediterraneo.
E’ facile riconoscerlo perché ha delle caratteristiche particolari: un corpo ellittico con due spuntoni ai lati e un margine seghettato, è di colore grigio verde con sfumature rosse. Le chele e il ventre sono di un blu intenso e può arrivare a crescere fino a 23 centimetri di larghezza.
Il granchio blu è considerato una specie invasiva e molto pericolosa per la biodiversità. Oltre a riprodursi rapidamente, ha un appetito vorace e divora pesci, soprattutto orate, molluschi e altri crostacei mettendo a rischio, oltre alla biodiversità, anche l’economia della pesca.
Molti pescatori sono attualmente in crisi, il granchio blu taglia le reti e divora i molluschi non risparmiando di distruggere i vivai dei pesci locali. Proprio ultimamente, sull’adriatico ha fatto ingenti danni alle coltivazioni di vongole e cozze.
Gli addetti ai lavori chiedono aiuto alle istituzioni, se il granchio blu continua indisturbata a fare danni, molte attività di pesca potrebbero chiudere i battenti perché distrugge tutto.
Per arginare il problema e limitarne la diffusione sono in arrivo 2,9 milioni di euro per far fronte all’emergenza. I fondi stanziati dal Governo serviranno per fronteggiare la devastante presenza dei granchi blu, nello specifico per la cattura e lo smaltimento del crostaceo che sta distruggendo un intero ecosistema.
Si pensa di esportarlo in Cina e Usa, ad esempio, visto che sono Paesi che ne consumano e ne importano ingenti quantità.
Il granchio “alieno” può anche essere una prelibatezza se cucinato e portato sulle tavole. Ci sono ristoranti che già lo propongono nel menù.
